Terms of Service
Draft last updated October 6, 2026
The plain-language terms for creating, ordering and receiving a Tribe & Tale book.
This is our current working version. We are still having it reviewed, and it may change; if it changes in a way that matters to you, we will say so. Questions about it are welcome at [email protected].
About these terms
These terms apply when you use Tribe & Tale to create, order or receive a personalized children's book, or when you take part as a contributor. By creating an account, paying for a book, or using a contributor link, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information and is part of these terms.
Accounts and who can use the service
You must be at least 18 to create an account or to contribute. Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under it.
How the service works
The host creates a story for a child, pays for the book, and invites family and friends (the contributors) to add their parts through private links. We use the information provided, together with AI tools, to create illustrations and story text. The host reviews a proof, can ask for changes, and approves the book. Only then do we send it to print.
What you provide, and what you promise about it
The photos, names and words you give us are your content. When you provide it, you confirm that:
- you have the right to provide it, including for any child or other person it shows or describes;
- if you are the host, you are the child's parent or guardian, or you have their parent's or guardian's permission to create this book, and the people you invite know they are being invited;
- it is not unlawful, hateful, sexual, threatening or harassing, and it does not infringe anyone else's rights; and
- it is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
AI-generated illustrations and text
Illustrations and story text are produced by AI tools and then checked automatically. They are not photographs: a likeness may not be exact, and details can occasionally be wrong. That is why you review a proof before anything is printed. Please check names, faces and every page carefully. A book you have approved is printed as approved.
We check written content before it is used and may refuse or change content that we think does not belong in a children's book.
Orders and payment
The price, what is included, and any shipping charge are shown to you before you pay. Payment is taken by our payment provider. The host pays for the book on behalf of the whole tribe, and contributors pay nothing to us. Any arrangement between the host and contributors about sharing the cost is theirs alone.
Proofs, printing and delivery
We start printing only after the host approves the proof. Books are printed and shipped by a print partner to the address entered at checkout, so please check it carefully. Delivery times that we give are estimates, not promises, and can vary with printing and carrier delays.
Returns, problems and deleting your data
Every book is made to order from your content, so we cannot take back a book that is as you approved it. If your book arrives damaged or misprinted, contact us and we will make it right.
A host can delete a book's data at any time. If the book has already been paid for, deleting its data does not entitle you to a refund, because the book cannot be made without it. A book that has already been sent to the printer can't be erased until it has been produced.
If someone in your tribe has paid for their own digital copy, we tell you before you delete, and unless you choose otherwise we keep just the files they paid for, for them only, for 60 days.
Using the service properly
Please do not:
- use the service for anything unlawful, or to create content that is harmful to a child or anyone else;
- upload photos or information of people without the right to do so;
- try to get around our checks, limits or security, or access anyone else's book or account; or
- copy, resell or interfere with the service.
Who owns what
You keep ownership of the photos and words you provide. You give us permission to use them, and to pass them to the companies that help us run the service, only to create, proof, print and deliver your book and to operate and protect the service.
The illustrations and text created for your order are for your personal use, such as keeping the book, giving it, and sharing it with family and friends. If you would like to use them commercially, please contact us first.
What we do not promise
We work hard to make the service dependable, but it is provided as it is, and we do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, and our total responsibility for any one order is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited.
Suspending or ending access
We may suspend or end access to the service if these terms are broken or if it is needed to protect people or the service. You can stop using it at any time and can delete your data as described above.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and if a change affects an order you have already placed, we will tell you before it applies.
